A Trademark Call
The Goat joins an elite group of mammals —which includes humans, bats and whales— known to adapt a vocal sound in response to the environment .
Pygmy Goat kids have ability to modify a sound, rather than make calls limited by genetics. This is done in accordance to their social surroundings and could be thought of as developing the group's specific 'accent'.
Kids develop the 'accent' of their social group.
Goats live in complex social groups that split during the day and reunite at night. Having a trademark call helps the group to recognize members and come back together.
